ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Delegates should preferably be working in the electrical industry and ideally have Approved Electrician status with a good understanding of the IEE Wiring Regulations (BS7671).

Course Overview

Competent performance in this unit requires the candidate to install and program a simple PLC unit. This involves planning the circuit building activities and obtaining all the required materials, tools and equipment and job instructions required, wiring up the PLC and its input/output modules, and developing, inputting and proving the integrity of an appropriate operating program.

There must be performance evidence that proves the candidates has wired up a PLC circuit that includes three of the following: switches, relays, sensing devices, actuating devices: used the correct type and size of cable to connect the PLC and all its operating components and I/O devices: made suitable connections to the appropriate terminals which are mechanically secure and have sound installation and electrical continuity: produced programs which are logical in operation and contain all the necessary information to carry out the task required; inputted, checked, edited and proved the program using appropriate methods and equipment.
